Scribblers on the Roof: Contemporary American Jewish Fiction

Scribblers on the Roof: Contemporary American Jewish Fiction Melvin Jules Bukiet and David G. Roskies (Editors)

Here is contemporary American Jewish fiction at its best—revered masters such as Cynthia Ozick, Lore Segal, and Max Apple, with gifted newcomers, including Pearl Abraham, Jon Papernick, and Dara Horn. Plus Jonathan Ames, Janice Eidus, Myra Goldberg, Ken Kalfus, Binnie Kirshenbaum, Jonathan Levi, Mary Morris, Sonia Pilcer, Norma Rosen, Jonathan Rosen, Lucy Rosenthal, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Steve Stern, and Aryeh Lev Stollman. Drawn from the renowned rooftop reading series at Ansche Chesed, a synagogue on the Upper West Side in New York City.

Praise for the Book:
"Recent American Jewish fiction is indeed a coat of many colors, and every one of them is on display in this rich and varied story collection."Morris Dickstein

"A tender, clever, and often cheerfully vulgar collection . . . . [that] will appeal to two groups of readers: those who are Jewish and those who are not." Brian Morton

About the Editors:
Melvin Jules Bukiet has published six books of fiction and edited two previous anthologies. He teaches at Sarah Lawrence College. David G. Roskies is Professor of Yiddish literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary and editor-in-chief of the New Yiddish Library.
